Frequently-Asked Questions
What is Recruitment (Rush)?
Recruitment is a period of time in which a sorority advertises and encourages the enrollment of new members.
How does Recruitment work?
The Monday of Recruitment is "round robin", in which all prospective new members are introduced to the four national panhellenic sororities at Ramapo. On Tuesday, all potential new members go to four 30 minute parties for each sorority. After Tuesday night is over, you must decide to eliminate one sorority that you don't feel a connection with. Then Wednesday, you go to three 45 minute parties; Wednesday night you eliminate a second sorority you don't like. Then Thursday you receive a "Pref" which is an invite back to the last night of Recruitment. That night, you rank which 2 sororities would be your number 1 and number 2 choice (or you can decide to just put one sorority down if you are completely sure). Friday you are matched with a sorority and receive a Bid!
What is New Member Education?
New Member Education is Sigma Delta Tau's version of "pledging". It's simply a period of time when a new member gets to know sisters and become knowledgeable about the sorority. If you would like to know more, ask the New Member Educator, Maddy (malbright@ramapo.edu).
How much are dues?
In Sigma Delta Tau, dues change every semester. The cost of dues depends on the amount of girls in the sorority. No one has ever not been able to pay dues. If you are nervous about any money situation you may have, we have many different payment plans you can customize with our Treasurer Caitlin Hedges ([email protected])
